Inclusion for All: Call to Action
Support our campaign to make inclusive schools a reality for every child.
Last year, 34 million school days were lost to absence and suspension. Behind these numbers are children with unmet needs, children living in poverty, and children pushed out of education. This isn’t just a SEND crisis – it’s an education crisis.
Too many children wait years for assessments and patchy support. Too many are excluded instead of included. It doesn’t have to be this way.
Inclusion for All calls on government to adopt a clear, practical definition of inclusion: all staff, every day, supporting every child so they feel safe, supported and able to thrive. That means schools designed with all children in mind, leaders putting inclusion at the centre, communities working together, and progress that is measured and improved continuously.
This definition was shaped with young people, families, schools and charities, and builds on the Who is Losing Learning? campaign. Already, 30+ organisations across education and children’s services are backing the call.
Together, we can build schools where children don’t just attend – they belong, achieve and thrive.
What Works: Four Tenets of effective Internal Alternative Provision
Nurture unit, inclusion hub, isolation room, unit, base, bridge –internal alternative provision (IAP) goes by countless names. There are just as many examples of effective and ineffective approaches.
The Difference are working with schools to understand what effective Internal AP looks like. We are supporting them to develop approaches which deliver improved outcomes for students.
In collaboration with our National Network for IAP, The Difference produced ‘What Works: Four tenets of Effective Internal Alternative Provision” to support schools and school leaders to understand what effective Internal AP looks like.”
